Richard Caughey

Richard Kenneth Caughey, 47, Brainerd, MN passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at his home while listening to the Minnesota Twins; family was at his side. His death was the result of a spinal cord injury.

Rick was born January 20, 1972 in Brainerd, MN to Bob and Peggy. He lived most of his life in Brainerd and graduated from BHS in 1990. He played football and baseball throughout his school years. Rick was a very talented athlete. He attended college at the University of Minnesota/Morris, Central Lakes College, Robotics program in Staples, and earned his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from St. Scholastica. Rick was employed at Ascensus Financial Services for the past 10+ years. Rick and Tonya were married on August 28, 1999 and together raised four awesome kids. Rick spent many hours playing ball with the kids and grandkid. He and his family enjoyed traveling, camping and sporting events together as well as reading and watching movies. Rick and his son, Renzen learned to deer hunt together and he always made sure Ren got the deer. Rick was very smart and funny, so very kind hearted and humble; he loved his family more than anything.

Left sadly behind are his wife and best friend, Tonya; children, Alyssa (Jennifer) Aric, Anna (Nick), Renzen (Hannah); grandson, Jaxon; mother, Peggy (Jerry); grandmother, Kathryn; mother-in-law, Marilyn; sisters-in-law, Gina, Heidi; many aunts, uncles, cousins; his cousin Chris like a brother. A heartfelt and special thank you to Aunt Gayle for her constant help and endless support. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Bob; father-in-law, Lyle; nephew, Donavon; cousins, Jimmy and Jackie; grandparents, Rolland and Esther Holst and grampa, Kenneth Caughey.

A Memorial service for Rick will be 11:00AM, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter, MN. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Monetary gifts will be forwarded to the “Spinal Cord Injury Research Program” at Mayo Clinic.
