American Veteran 01

Maurice August Miller

March 3, 1933 ~ August 11, 2019 (age 86)

Maurice A. Miller, 86, of Brainerd, passed away at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in St. Cloud on Sunday, August 11, 2019.

Funeral Services for Maurice will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter.  Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and to stay for a luncheon to follow.  Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and VFW of Brainerd.  Interment will take place at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls.

Maurice was born March 3, 1933 in Brainerd, the son of Pete and Mary (Veit) Miller.  After his education he enlisted in the US Army and served for twenty years.  In 1971, he married Barbara Laste and the couple enjoyed 48 years together.  They lived in Michigan for most of that time where Maurice worked as a Power Plant Supervisor for the Department of Corrections. Once he retired, Maurice wanted to return to his home town of Brainerd where they have lived since 2003.

Not much made Maurice happier than a Coke in his hand, his little “boy”, Gracie at his side, and a boxing match on the screen.  One of Maurice and Barbara’s favorite times together was a trip around the Great Lakes.  Dogs played an important part of Maurice and Barbara’s life and after only three months of marriage they adopted their first of many.

He will be missed by his wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Bettina (Ralf) Zaar; nieces and nephews, Dr. Robert (Jennifer) McCurdy, Elizabeth (David Martin), Andrew McCurdy, Laura McCurren, and Michael (Kellie) McCurdy; and his beloved little “boy”, Gracie.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ellen Miller.
