Lloyd Marcel Johnson, 89, of Brainerd, MN died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Thursday October 10, 2019. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16, from 4-7PM at Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with a time for sharing beginning at 6PM and a prayer service and rosary to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, October 17, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, an additional visitation will be one hour prior. Military honors will be performed at the church after Mass. Interment will be at 4:00PM at Baxter City Cemetery.

Lloyd was born April 27, 1930 to Lloyd and Leona (Becker) Johnson in Round Prairie, MN. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the military. Lloyd was part of the Frozen Chosin in the Korean War; he was one of only 22 men who returned home to their families after being missing in action. He served in the United States Army for 7 years, then spent 15 years in the United States Air Force. Lloyd married Elizabeth Whitney on March 6, 1956 in Sioux Falls, SD. He and his wife were rarely seen apart, always together. He worked as a mechanical engineer for St. Joseph’s Hospital for 22 years prior to his retirement. He also drove the Good Samaritan Society – Woodland van on Saturday nights for St. Andrew’s Mass for over 20 years. Lloyd was a beloved member of his community; he was a past Grand Knight, and he held the position of 4th Degree Honor Guard Commander for the Knights Of Columbus. He was a member of many organizations that meant a great deal to him- the VFW, the American Legion, American Veterans Club, Disabled American Veterans, Retired Enlisted Club, Rugged Rats, Patriot Guard, 371 Vets Club, and was previously President of the “over 20 club” Retired Veterans. Lloyd was an avid bowler- a hobby he truly loved. He also loved his Volkswagens, trading up every two years. He had over 50 different cars/VWs in his lifetime. Lloyd will be sincerely missed by so many who’s lives he touched.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth of 63 years; children, Cindy Johnson and her children Kristy Toft, Brandt Toft, Ted Toft, Lloyd Johnson JR, Tammie Johnson (Gary) and her son Jeffrey Henderson, Sherri (Robert) Hartman and their son Justin James Hartman, Robin (Al) Pfanz and their children Chris, Josh, Cassie, and Jessie; brother Norman (Betty) Johnson; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Leona; sister, Marjorie Clark.
