Duane Jamison

June 17, 1928 — October 12, 2021

Duane Burton Jamison, 93, of Crosslake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2021 of natural causes.  Duane was a devoted husband, exceptional father, successful provider for his family, loving grandpa and great-grandpa as well as a loyal friend to many people throughout his life.

Duane was born to Mann and Ann Jamison and was the youngest of four boys.  Duane was raised initially on a family farm by Plainfield, Iowa.  In 1944, he moved to Pine River, MN with his parents as they owned and operated Lamont’s Point Resort on Bass Lake, part of the Ossawinnamakee chain.  He attended Pine River High School as a junior and senior, graduating from there in 1946.  At an early age on the farm and later at the resort, he was exposed to and developed a strong work ethic along with a love of the outdoors.

While attending Pine River High School, he was introduced to his future wife Olive Stevens.  After two years of courtship, Duane and Olive were married in June 1947 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Swanburg, MN.  They later moved to Minneapolis to start a family and raise their five children. Duane retained a lake home in the area for several years, and later returned permanently to the area in 1974.

Duane was a successful businessman as he built a reputable cement contractor business in Blaine and Spring Lake Park.  He maintained a successful commercial building leasing business with his wife Olive, which remains in operation to this day.  After an early retirement in 1973 due to health issues, he later purchased a small hobby farm by Ideal Corners where he raised various livestock and seasonal crops.  He remained active in farming until selling the farm in 1987.

Duane was an avid outdoorsman and for years enjoyed fishing and deer hunting with Olive and his family, as well as goose hunting in Canada.  Some of his favorite memories were these events with his family and friends.  He was also well known by local auctioneers as he enjoyed attending auctions and going to garage sales in the quest to find good deals.  His attendance yielded plenty of supplies, equipment and unique items to use on the farm or to display for everyone to enjoy.

He was preceded in death by his father Mann and mother Ann; brothers Ken, Harold and Joe; and sons Steven and Alan.  He is survived by his wife of over 74 years Olive; daughter in law Paulette Jamison, daughters Pamela Steinke (Wayne) and Debra Doerfler (Donald), son Gary Jamison (Cynthia), twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
