Bettie Dunlap

January 31, 1925 — March 12, 2019

Bettie Lou Dunlap, 94, of Baxter, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd.  A Celebration of Bettie’s Life will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot Lakes. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and to stay for a luncheon to follow.  A private interment will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.

Bettie was born January 31, 1925, in Llano, TX.  She was the daughter of Ebben Louis McMillan, Sr. and Ruby Edwards.  Bettie’s parents passed away when she was young and she ended up with family in California.  She met the love of her life, Carl Dunlap at a USO event and on June 9, 1944 they were married in Fresno.  She enjoyed staying home and raising her family.  Carl was a Colonel in the Air Force so they moved often and Bettie enjoyed joining him on various social engagements.  She volunteered for the Red Cross.  Bettie loved animals and over the years had cats, dogs, and horses.  Most of all, Bettie loved her girls – and cherished the time she spent with her daughters.

She will be missed by her daughters, Bettie (Greg) Den Herder and Carla Galatis; granddaughter, Evelyn (Alex) Johnston; and great-grandson, Owen Johnston.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl and daughter, Bonnie Hough.
