Arnold Olson

May 3, 1937 — March 13, 2019

Arnold “Arnie” Olson, 81, of the Brainerd Lakes Area, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Elim Care and Rehab in Princeton.  Services for Arnie will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.  Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services and stay for a luncheon to follow.  Interment will take place at Evergreen Hill Cemetery.

Arnie was born May 3, 1937, in Staples, the son of Oscar and Martha (Lanske) Olson.  Arnie had a spirit for adventure that started young.  He loved hopping on a train to visit relatives and friends in North Dakota.  When his children were young, he loved to take them camping with their cousins.  Arnie began working at the paper mill in Brainerd, but after an injury attended vocational school where he trained to be a Blacksmith.  He worked as a Blacksmith for BNSF until his retirement.  Arnie enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, and telling stories.  He often entertained nursing home staff with his pranks and jokes.  He played the guitar and found much comfort sitting outside taking in nature.  His family – especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy.  Arnie also had a found appreciation for ice cream, even when he couldn’t eat there was always room for ice cream.  He will be missed.

He is survived by his children, Arnold J. (Annette) Olson, Joy Velasco, and Lonnie Olson; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lila Hansen and Esther Pikula.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald.
