Willis Arthur Hoyt (Will) passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Minneapolis on May 17, 1957.
Will graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1975. He was preceded in death by Binky, Hughie, Merps, Ruby, and Lars. Surviving classmates are probably still subject to statues of limitations for all of their shenanigans. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Will served as a professional civil engineer in northern and central Minnesota for over 30 years. He loved to fish for walleyes and was quite fond of grouse hunting. Ruth and Will shared retirement years split between Nisswa, MN, and Venice, FL. He excelled at nothing but was pretty good at pickleball, golf, and cribbage.
Will is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; daughter, Rachel Mills; son, John Hoyt; siblings, Cheryl (Daryl) Prather, Mike (Allie Jo) Lano, Mary (Joe) Mulvehill, and Tom (Joan) Lano; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and special family member, Rachel Chapman.
Will was preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn and Neal Lano, who he described as the best mom and dad in this world.
A celebration of life will be held later this fall. Memorials preferred to acpmp.org.
May I know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day.
