William Wallace Wicht, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, February 14, 2026, at his home in West Union surrounded by family. Bill was born at the Bertha Hospital on February 6, 1949 to John and Evelyn (Martin) Wicht, the youngest of seven children. He grew up on the family farm in Aldrich and was a 1967 graduate of Staples High School. He was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples, MN and confirmed later at Messiah Lutheran Church in Moundsview, MN. Bill had two years of training at Dunwoody then worked most of his life as a carpenter in Minnesota, but also worked eight years in Texas and four years in Oregon. While he was living there, he spent some time working in theater as an actor. He performed in many plays, including "Harvey" and "The Nerd". In 1968, Bill was united in marriage to Carol Dvorak, a union blessed with his only child, a boy named William Wallace Wicht, Jr. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest! He loved motorcycles and rode a "Harley" with his many friends. Eventually it was replaced with a black truck with "WWW" on his license plates! He enjoyed hunting deer and waterfowl, and he especially spent many hours fishing. Bill enjoyed a game of Frisbee Golf with his nephew, Thom. Bill always had a beautiful vegetable garden and his whole yard was full of flowers! Bill was an avid U of M Gopher fan, especially for football and basketball We always saw him wearing his Gopher caps and sweatshirts. Family and friends were important to Bill. We will miss him and his great sense of humor! Bill is survived by his son, William, of San Francisco, CA; three sisters-Joan Clark of Fridley, MN, Alvina (Gary)Schmidt of Afton, MN, DeEtta Bilek of Aldrich; one brother-John Wicht, Jr of West Union, MN, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-LaVay and Elhart Ebel, LaVonne Wicht; his wife Carol (Dvorak) Wicht; two brother-in-laws-Edward Clark and Tom Bilek, and best friend, Jon "Gump" Doriott of Lakeland, MN.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Masonic Cancer Center at the Unversity of Minnesota, https://cancer.umn.edu/donate.
A visitation will be held from 5pm -7pm on Thursday, February 26th at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Staples. Services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 27th at Trinity Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
