Vic Hayes has been called into service in another life; guess someone needed a deer hunting teacher. Vic retired after teaching in Holdingford Elementary for 33 years. where he shaped the lives of students, parents and staff. He wore many hats while teaching, including coaching, bus driver and volunteer. He was always busy when not at school, whether it was spending time with family, building many items, inventing, camping, fishing, snowmobiling or hunting. His main passion, after his wife, Betty, was deer hunting. The deer are a little safer now and our lunch fires will be a little smaller. He will be greatly missed by everyone; he was always reaching out meeting new people everywhere he went.
Vic Hayes was born to Ralph and Bernadine Boser-Hayes of Little Falls, Mn. He graduated from Little Falls High School in 1964. He served in the Army National Guard for six years. He started off college at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, transferring after two years and graduating from St. Cloud University in 1969. He student taught in Princeton, then taught 3-6th grade in Holdingford. He retired in in 2002 and moved to Pequot Lakes Whitefish Chain of lakes in 2007.
He loved going out on the water, catching many fish and telling even bigger tales. He was a member of the Lions club, Legion, and Pequot Lakes Brush Pilates.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, John Hayes (Cathy) of Breezy Point, Jenny Hayes-Lutgen (Craig) of Princeton and Jolene Breth (Melvin) of Holdingford; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who he was forever proud of; and sisters, Carol Marshik (Ernest) of Little Falls and Patricia Rausch (Bill) of Rice. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bernadine Hayes, and sisters, JoAnn Maus and Marlys Stangl.
A visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Brenny Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, April 8, at St. Alice Catholic Church, with a visitation the hour prior. Burial will be at 12 PM on Thursday, April 9, at Camp Ripley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Victor Hayes’s honor to a charity of your choice or to one of the following: your local Lions Club, food shelf, Mounted Eagles, or the Boy Scouts of America.
