Friends and family are warmly welcome to attend the memorial service and burial with honors of Victor (Vic) Flansburg. The service will be held June 27, 2026 with visitation starting at 9:30am and service at 10:30am. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jim Johnson at Motley Free Methodist Church. Additional arrangements provided by Brenny Family Funeral Chapel of Baxter, MN. There will be a luncheon to follow the service. Burial immediately after lunch at Wing River Union Cemetery Verndale, MN.
Vic went into the open arms of his lord and savior on November 3, 2025. Vic sailed on peacefully in his sleep at the Veterans home in Fergus Falls, MN. The place he called home since April 2022. Vic enjoyed the camaraderie there with his fellow Veterans he also enjoyed playing bingo, going on outings and keeping staff on “his schedule.”
Vic lived an adventurous life leaving this earth at 97 years old. He left home at 15-1/2, worked his way across the North Dakota wheat fields making his way to Everett, WA. While there he worked for Boeing Aircraft, then joined the Merchant Marines and later the U.S. Navy. Vic served with honor participating in the Pacific Theater during WWII and the Korean War. Vic traveled the world kept the boiler room running and earned the nickname “Honest Abe” from his shipmates. Vic was truly a man who loved his country and was willing to lay-down his life for it. Vics benevolence was evident in the many organizations he belonged to locally and nationally.
While home on leave he married Delores Jane Mohler May 18, 1948 in Wadena, MN. It was a small ceremony and he returned to duty after their honeymoon to complete his service. Vic and Delores raised their family mostly in Stillwater, MN, then San Diego, CA. Later in retirement Vic returned home to Motley, MN. While in MN, Vic enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering and building things.
Vic was a Son, Brother, Husband, Uncle, Dad, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. He is gone from our sight but never forgotten in our hearts. Vic is survived by his two daughters Linda Winters, and Jill Flansburg. One son Gary Flansburg; six grandchildren Keli Romine (Andrew), Kurtis Flansburg, Cameron Winters (Rachael), Gavin Mencel, Brock Mencel, and Chase Mencel; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jayce, Rylan, Adelyn, Bethany, and Cody; three brothers Robert (Bob) Flansburg, Lloyd Flansburg (Jackie), and Richard Flansburg (Pat) and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews.
3He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vivian (Sis) Dickman and his wife of 43 years, Delores Flansburg.
