It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tory Michael Rochat on October 4th, 2025, at the age of 28. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Julia Burton. Tory was raised in Staples by Julia and Jay Rochat where he graduated high school in 2016. From a young age, Tory was known for his kindness, compassion, intelligence, and unwavering support for others. He was a gentle soul, always thinking of others and protecting their feelings.

Tory’s higher education journey began at St. Cloud State University in 2017. During this year he met the love of his life, Kortni Cloud. Driven by his dreams, he transferred to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus, earning a bachelor’s degree in statistics with a minor in computer science in 2021. During his time at the U of M, Tory joined the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, serving as the scholarship chairman and later the executive vice president. He found fulfillment by serving others and building lifelong bonds. Recently, Tory returned to school and was in his third year of pursuing a second bachelor’s degree. He was an avid learner who was always striving for personal growth. One of his proudest memories was hearing someone introduce him as “the smartest person they knew”.

Professionally, Tory spent his whole career at SPS Commerce. He began his career in customer support quickly earning recognition for dedication and hard work. He was promoted to software engineer, respected for his intelligent and educational gifts. Tory’s love for learning extended beyond work - he was always eager to challenge others to board games and was often the person to beat at family game nights. He excelled at ping pong, bean bags, darts, and was always “down to try anything”.

Tory’s warmth and generosity touched everyone he met. He built incredible relationships and was always there to support friends and family by being generous with his heart and time. As the oldest of three children, he cherished time with his brother Griffin and sister Riley. Tory lived a full and rich life through experiences and relationships. He cherished his relationships with Kortni, his cousin Kirstie Gottfried, and his two best friends, Daniel Ennis and Tyler Johnson. Tory’s infectious laugh and sense of humor brought people together, and his passions for cooking, travel, and music enriched his life. He loved exploring new places, taking on any challenges, camping in national parks, and attending music festivals. Tory practiced PLUR-peace, love, unity, and respect- making everyone feel welcome and valued. He often complimented strangers, always making sure they felt heard and understood.

Above all, Tory will be remembered for his kind soul, warm hugs, endearing smile, and dedication to high personal standards. Tory was a beautiful soul who left his earthly form too early, and he will be missed by many. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He believed in the good in people and would love for us all to make PLUR – peace, love, unity, and respect- a conscious part of our daily lives in his honor. Please join us in celebrating Tory’s life in Staples, Minnesota, as we honor the unforgettable impact he made on our lives.
