Timothy Paul Fread
October 19, 1946 – April 1, 2026
Timothy Paul Fread, 79, of Long Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, with his loving brother by his side.
He was born in Tacoma, Washington, to Martin and Dorothy Fread. At the time of Tim’s birth, complications caused his hearing loss and cerebral palsy. The family moved many time until his father’s death in 1955, after which Dorothy settled the family in her hometown of Staples, Minnesota. Tim attended Faribault school for the deaf. In September of 1975, he began working for STEP, in Browerville, MN. After retirement, he continued to be involved with STEP’s Senior Program.
Tim lived at home with his mother until his early 50’s, when he chose to move to a group home, where he thrived. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, forming many friendships, and watching the Twins and Vikings on TV.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Dorothy Fread; his sister, Dodie Nelson; brother in law, John Nelson; and his nephew Michael Fread.
He is survived by his brother, Martin Donald Fread Jr and sister-in-law Barbara Fread; as well as nieces and nephews Kimberly Fread; Doug (Rozanne) Fread; Cathy (Mike) Bengtson; Rick (Boom) Nelson; Rob (Susan) Nelson; Colleen (Duane) Fletcher; Jodie (Tom) Wendt; Suzanne Brown; and Mark (Katherine) Nelson. He is also survived by many great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Tim’s Oakridge Homes family for their many years of loving care, as well as the wonderful staff and hospice providers at Cerenity Senior Care in White Bear Lake, MN, for their compassionate care during Tim’s final days.
