Thomas "Tom" Swanson

Thomas "Tom" Swanson, 72, of Brainerd, MN, passed away at home with his family on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Brainerd.

Tom was born at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from North Branch High School, carrying that hardworking farm boy attitude throughout his entire life—never giving up on whatever he set out to do.

Tom was united in marriage to Jean (Nelson) on October 13, 1979. An entrepreneur at heart, Tom was never ready to call it quits; he started a pressure washer business, worked as a home builder, and in his later years, found joy in renovating homes.

Tom had a huge heart, was an amazing cook who loved to share, and always made sure there was a place at his table. He famously hosted holiday meals at his home, affectionately dubbed "The Orphanage," where incredible food was served alongside endless laughter and a good card game. His passion for cooking extended deep into the community. Tom organized and cooked for the Camp Confidence Mariucci tournament for many years. He could also be found on Tuesday nights cooking at the Elks Lodge, and for many years, he organized and cooked the meal for the Elks Fishing Fling.

Tom was a deeply involved member of his community, dedicating his time and leadership to several local organizations. He was an active member of the Brainerd Elks Lodge and the Brainerd Sertoma. Within the Brainerd Moose Lodge, Tom proudly served as Governor at one time. An avid outdoorsman, he was also a longtime member of the Baxter Bass Club, sharing his love for fishing and camaraderie. Tom was a friend to all and loved by all. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Until we meet again.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his daughter, Ingralisa, and her spouse, Ben Anderson; and his cherished grandson, Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Eleanor (Johnson) Swanson; his sister, Vickie Swanson; and his parents-in-law, Shirley and Wyman Nelson.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter.

A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Fish Lake Lutheran Church in Harris, MN (43353 Cedarcrest Trail). A graveside service will immediately follow the funeral at Fish Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
