Age 81 of Pequot Lakes, MN died peacefully on September 9, 2022 after a long battle with Idiopathic Lung Disease. Preceded in death by parents, Roy and Grace, and brother James. Tom is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 61 years, Patricia; daughters Karen LaGrange (Paul) and Nancy Slater (John); five grandchildren; one great- grandchild; and siblings Paul Montgomery (Nancy) and Mary Lueck. Tom was born September 30, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN and was a graduate of both Patrick Henry High School and the University of Minnesota where he earned his teaching degree. Within a few years of starting his teaching career, he knew that he needed to follow his passion and changed career fields into Parks and Recreation where he was instrumental in developing the Maple Grove Parks system, and later as the Assistant Superintendent of Operations for the Minneapolis Park Dept. Tom’s overriding desire was to assure that our park systems retained their natural beauty and were welcoming for everybody to enjoy. Because of his love of nature, Tom spent many vacations camping, hiking, and skiing in the mountains. Tom loved living at his lake home where he enjoyed hikes in the woods, planting trees for future generations, pontoon rides with his grandkids, and campfires with family and friends. We will all miss his jokes, quick wit, and the way he made us laugh.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held in Florida.
Memorials to Good Samaritan Society Hospice of Nisswa, MN preferred.
The Montgomery Family’s care is entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Crosslake.
