Backus

Thomas Earl Hedtke, 67, of Backus, Minnesota, sadly passed away in his home on October 26th, 2026.

Tom was born in Waconia, on August 22, 1959. After graduating High School in May of 1977, he spent his working years in sales. He founded his own Bait and Tackle shop in the mid 80’s, then transitioned into roles that allowed him to travel across the United States. He worked for A-1 Marine, various Polaris positions which allowed him to live in Alaska for almost 5 years, Newman’s Manufacturing, Power Lodge, Lund dock and lifts, and TnJ before settling into early retirement in 2021. For those who knew him best, remember him for his kind heart, robust personality, sense of humor, and his deep love for fishing, hunting and his devotion to family.

He’s survived by his wife of 33 years, Jody Hedtke (Stewart); daughter, Nichelle Hedtke (Joseph Hanson); grandchildren, Jemma Hanson and Boden Hanson; mother, Virginia Hedtke; brother, Roger Hedtke (Sue); along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Everal Hedtke; father-in-law, Lloyd Stewart; mother-in-law, Betty Stewart.

Though he has taken his final journey, Tom’s legacy will live on in every family gathering, every campfire story, every cast across the water, and every sunrise in the woods. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
