Samuel Sorenson

Samuel "Wayne" Sorenson, age 90, of Staples, passed away at his home, on Tuesday, May 24. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, June 1st, at 11:00 AM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7, at the Brenny Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service. Internment will be concluded at a later date.

Wayne was born on June 12, 1920, to Samuel and Vernie (Thompson) Sorenson, in Verndale, MN. He attended school there, graduating from the 8th grade. In 1944, he married DeEtta Reipke in Wadena and together they raised three children. Wayne worked in many areas of agriculture, from hauling fertilizer, to raising mink, to cattle farming. Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, snowmobiling, and visiting. He was a founding member of the Staples Sportsman's Club. He also volunteered as a driver for Social Services.

Wayne is survived by his children, Ron, of Marine on St. Croix, Jane (Mike) Ringler, of Palmer, AK, and Bob (Cindy), of Staples; grandchildren, Joel Ringler, Chad Ringler, Amanda Sorenson, and Brent Sorenson; great-grandchildren, Emma, Chase, and Eli; sister, Phyllis Gaare; good friend and hunting buddy, Brad Bredemeier; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, DeEtta; his parents, sister, Elizabeth; and infant sister, Francis.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
