May 5, 1939 — May 24, 2026

Crosslake, MN

Robert Clayton Moengen, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, Minnesota, just 58 days after the passing of his beloved wife, Janice, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Bob was born on May 5, 1939, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Clayton and Clara (Doelz) Moengen. He and Janice raised their four sons—Mark, John, Brent, and Jason—in Plymouth, Minnesota. Bob’s career in the jewelry & watch industry included 45 years at Jewelmont Corporation in Golden Valley, MN where he started at high school age and worked his way to Vice President. While at Jewelmont Bob was also President of the American Watchmakers Institute. He completed his career at Twin City Supply in St Louis Park.

Following retirement, Bob and Janice moved to Crosslake, Minnesota, where they enjoyed living near their sons, John and Jason, and their families.

Bob loved the Lord and lived out his faith in quiet, humble service to others. He was a gentle man who faithfully lent a helping hand wherever needed and found joy in worship through music, singing in gospel quartets and men’s choruses.

He had a lifelong love for model trains and was a founding member of the Crosslake NMRHA. Bob and Janice also shared a passion for classic cars and enjoyed their involvement with the Oldsmobile Club.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice; his parents, Clayton and Clara Moengen; and his brother, Wayne.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Nancy Moengen, John and Deb Moengen, Brent and Sandra Moengen, and Jason and Amy Moengen; his sister, Ruth; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Wellenstein, Emily (Matthew) Ellinghuysen, Carrie (Jake) Collins, Kim (Cody) Hartman, Elizabeth (Aaron) Koepp, Rebecca (Mark) Hagerty, Andrew (Hannah) Moengen, Isaiah (Allyson) Moengen, and Hadley Moengen; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held on May 30, 2026, with a celebration of Bob’s life to be held in August.
