Robert Long

Robert C Long (Bob) died Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Edgewood Baxter Memory Care. He was 83.

Bob was born November 13, 1942, in Hennepin County in the city of Minneapolis, St Mary's Hospital to Robert Christian Long Senior and Mae Myra Price Long. He attended Usareut American Elementary School in Heidelberg, Germany and completed his high school education also in Heidelberg, Germany where his dad was stationed with the military.

Later Bob earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas of El Paso. One of Bob’s proudest accomplishments was assisting in establishing a consumer-run day program for the Life Management Center in El Paso, Texas. After moving back to Minnesota Bob worked in sales, carpentry, and computer programming. He retired from the lighting department at Baxter, MN Menards in April of 2024. Bob received much recognition for his excellent customer service.

Bob was a member of the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church of Brainerd where he served on the church council, the building committee and went on an Alaskan Mission Trip in the summer of 2022. There he was able to use his bi-lingual skills in ministry. Bob was also active with the Brainerd Gideon Camp. He enjoyed distributing Bibles at schools and giving his testimony at local churches.

Bob is survived by one sister, Vicky Adams of Bovee, MN and nephew Andrew Adams of Japan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mae Long and sister Linda.

Those who are grateful to have called him a friend and brother in Christ are his caregivers, Mark and Carla Bichler, his Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church Family, Brainerd Gideon Camp and co-workers at Menards, Baxter.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church, Brainerd MN or the Brainerd Gideon Camp.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church, 5878 Pine Beach Rd, Brainerd. Visitation begins at 10:00 am. A light lunch will be served at the church following the services. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at a later date.
