Robert (Bob) Kinney, 89, of Hackensack, MN and/or Austin, TX passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026.
Robert was born on July 30, 1937, at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, MN, to Howard and Mary (Hasselblad) Kinney. He graduated from McNabb high school in Illinois in 1955 and went on to earn his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois in 1959. Shortly after graduating, he started his 35-year career at 3M, where he worked until his retirement in 1994.
Bob married Nancy Kling in 1962 and they had three children: Bob Jr, John, and Beth. He lived his early life on the family farm Illinois and moved back to St. Paul to join 3M. Over the years, Bob's career brought the Kinney family to live in Swansea, Wales and Hamburg, Germany. He was relocated to Austin, TX in 1988.
Bob’s passion was hunting and fishing. His last days, just a few weeks before his passing, you could find him on the gun range in Walker or fishing from the dock at his cabin on Barnum Lake, casting his fly rod all decked out in his fishing attire.
Bob is survived by his children, Robert Kinney Jr. of Oakdale, MN, John Kinney of Champlin, MN, and Elizabeth Lonetti of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren Gabriella Stedronsky, Gage Kinney, and Lyra Kinney; his brother Jim Kinney (Barbara) and sister Marthelia Kinney; ex-wife Nancy Kinney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary, and loving partner Lura Schwartz.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Sunday, November 15th at Mississippi Crossings in Champlin, MN from noon to 2:30pm. Doors will open at 11:30am.
307 East River Parkway Champlin, MN 55316
