Robert “Bob” Mulenburg
Born on October 3, 1946, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, Bob was the oldest of five children. When his father left the family, Bob grew up quickly and assumed responsibilities beyond his years. He became a source of strength and stability for his mother and younger siblings. As his brother Wayne once said, “Your dad has been a dad for a very long time.” It was a simple observation, but one that perfectly captured Bob's life.
Bob was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the Arrow of Light Award, achievements that reflected the values of service, leadership, and perseverance that guided him throughout his life.
Life presented Bob with profound challenges, but he met them with quiet strength. Following the end of his first marriage, his greatest concern was his children. This last Father's Day, Bob shared with his family how important it was to him that he got custody of his children. Raising his children became one of the defining purposes of his life.
While working at Midtex in Mankato, Bob met Clio, the love of his life. In 1975, they married and began a partnership that would span 51 years. Together they welcomed their daughter Melissa in 1978.
Family remained Bob's highest priority throughout his life. He later helped care for his mother in her final years, arranging for her to move to Brainerd so he could remain close and assist her whenever needed. Caring for those he loved was never something Bob viewed as a burden. It was simply part of who he was.
Bob was generous with both his time and talents. Family members knew they could always call him when a car broke down, a home repair project seemed overwhelming, or something simply needed fixing. He was patient with advice, generous with his knowledge, and always willing to lend a hand.
An exceptionally skilled woodworker, Bob took great pride in creating things that would last. Among his many projects, he built custom cabinets for Casi and helped with countless home improvement projects over the years. Whether working with wood, solving a mechanical problem, or teaching someone how to do it themselves, Bob found satisfaction in building, repairing, and helping others.
He also had a lifelong love of golf. Bob and Clio spent countless days on Minnesota golf courses, making the most of every season. One of his favorite traditions was spending Father's Day golfing with his children. Although Casi and Terry never considered themselves avid golfers, the tradition was never really about the game. It was about spending time together, sharing stories, enjoying a few laughs, and celebrating family.
Bob took great pride in his growing family. In addition to his children, he was a proud grandfather of four and great-grandfather of two, roles that brought him great joy in his later years.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Clio Mulenburg; his children, Casi, Terry (Becca), and Melissa (Ian); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Doug and Wayne; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert ; his mother, Dee; his sister, Irene and his brother, Mike.
Bob's legacy is found not only in the lives he touched, but in the example he set. Throughout every stage of his life, he answered the call to care for those he loved. He will be remembered for his intelligence, his generosity, his resilience, and his unwavering dedication to family.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A celebration of life will be held at Eagle’s Landing Golf Course spring 2027.
