Richard Rodseth

August 28, 1940 — October 7, 2025

Brainerd, MN

Richard (Dick) Rodseth, 85, died at home on October 7, 2025, with family by his side.

Dick was born in Crookston, Minnesota, on August 28, 1940, and later moved with his parents to Grafton, ND, and then to North Hollywood, CA. He went into the Navy in 1958 and played on the Navy baseball team as a left-handed pitcher. He was a humble man, but he was proud to serve his country.

He was a service manager for Xerox Corporation for over 30 years. While he had great respect for his superiors in his work life, he always considered Jesus Christ to be his real “boss”. Ever since he was a little boy, his personal relationship with God was central in all seasons of his life, guiding his “morals, values and ethics” (a phrase often spoken to his family). His ardent focus in life was to help others know Christ more deeply, often through the giving of an over-abundance of books to family and friends.

When he married, he became the father of four girls who were the light of his life. He was a good dad and so proud of all his girls. While he was seen by most who knew him as only as a serious man, he was known by his daughters as being a fun and playful dad. He provided memorable adventures in camping as he entertained them around the campfire with his stories about Pancake and Vinegar, his original characters. Disneyland was also their “go to” destination too many times to count. He gave them every encouragement as adults in their individual pursuits having grounded them in faith and solid values. He remained ready to help in any way he could.

Dick was a family man par excellence, always putting others before himself and leaving the last cookie in the box for someone else. Above all else, he wanted to make his family happy. He was he was a good husband who gave his wife love, acceptance and encouragement in his wife's endeavors. He often brought her countless bouquets of flowers for no reason at all (who does that?). Dick worked very hard at becoming a perfect man. This Bible verse sums up his life as he lived it “…Whatever your task, work heartily as serving the Lord and not men” -Colossians 3:23.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Rodseth; and sister, Marilyn Shoemaker. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Lois Millspaugh; cousin, John Rodseth; daughters, Lori Roy, Nancy Howland, Meg Hames and Kristy Potance; grandchildren, Logan and Kori Roy, Madden and Peyton Howland, Cole, Chloe and Jackson Hames, and Jaden Potance; and great grandson, Lucian Roy.

Dick’s ashes will be interned in the Spring of 2026 with full military honors at the cemetery in Crookston, MN
