Ray was born to Anna Sofia and Victor Elving Holm in Minneapolis, MN on July 10, 1941. He passed away in Poulsbo, WA on October 7, 2025 at the age of 84.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Holm, his daughters Kristina Holm and Sonja Holm Parker and his granddaughter Adysen Parker Cook (Maddy Younger), as well as his older brothers Arne (Virginia) and Ingemar (Barbara) Holm and his nephews John (Sheryl), Andy (JoAnn), and Lennart Holm and his niece Ann-Marie Morrow (Mike).
Ray was raised in Minneapolis and in Sweden. He attended West High School in Minneapolis where he met his life-long and steadfast friend Bill Hennemuth (Sharon). Ray spent a lot of time with family and friends up at his parents’ cabin on Horseshoe Lake, where he learned to love the lakes and the pines.
Ray attended college at the University of Minnesota and served in Peace Corps in Colombia from 1966-1969. Upon returning from the Peace Corps, he and Sandy made their home in Mission Township on the back lot of his parents’ cabin across from Horseshoe Lake.
Ray was dedicated to building community, as demonstrated by his leadership with others in starting the Mission Township Fire Department, in constructing the Town Hall and associated Fire Department facilities, in planning the expansion of Mission Park, in obtaining grants to fund the tennis courts at Mission Park, and in leading the tennis league there.
Ray’s life was exemplified by public service. In addition to his time in the Peace Corps, Ray was Mission Township Supervisor for 9 years, volunteered as a fireman for 21 years, and served on the board of Lakeland Public Television for 6 years.
Ray worked as a carpenter and painter, until he joined Hunt Technologies, where he worked and played for over 25 years. Thank you, Paul.
Ray was a dreamer, a tinker, a nature lover, an avid tennis player, a philosopher, a curious and open mind, and simply a joy. He will be remembered for his kindness, tolerance, quick and generous laughter and smile, his Swedish pancakes, and his constant tune. We are bringing him home to the place he loved.
Instead of flowers or gifts, the family asks that folks consider a donation to the National Loon Center in Crosslake, MN, to Mission Park, or to Minnesota Public Radio in honor of Ray.
