Phyllis “Pat” Meissner, 93, of Backus, MN, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Home in Pine River, MN.
Pat was born in Chicago, IL, on February 19, 1932. At 13, she moved to Minnesota where she met Gordon and was married for 51 years before his death.
A dedicated homemaker, she had a warm and welcoming home where family and friends always felt loved Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Backus. She served faithfully as a Sunday school and bible school teacher for many years, sharing her love of Christ with countless children. Whenever new families moved to town, she made it a point to welcome them, often asking if their children wished to attend Sunday school. Each Sunday, she would drive through town, picking up children and bringing them to church with her.
For 15 years, Pat served as a foster grandparent in the Pine River/Backus schools, where she was affectionately known as “Grandma Pat”. Her care and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on students and staff alike, and she will be fondly remembered by the many children whose lives she touched.
Pat was also a proud member of the Backus American Legion Auxiliary, giving her time in service and fellowship with the community she loved.
Pat is survived by her children, Linda McNamara (Harold Chitwood), Jeanette Wolmutt, Carol Vredenberg (Neil), and Jeff Meissner; seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon; her son, Mike; and her siblings.
A funeral service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at 1 PM on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Backus, MN. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance for her life of faith and kindness.
