Born in Sauk rapids, MN on September 27, 1929, to Richard Dubbin and Nellie (Rosekranz)
Percy was the last of 9 children to pass. He passed on April 17, 2026.
Husband to Lavina (Britz) for 66 years. Father to LuAnn (John), Cheryl, Keith, Dale, Brent (Delayne), and Kathy (Todd). Grandpa to 10 and Great Grandpa to10 (soon to be 11).
Dad had an eighth-grade education and served in the Air Force in Japan as a supply sergeant. He received his GED while in the service and graduated from Minnesota School of Business when he returned state side. He and Lavina settled in Crystal and made great lifelong friends in the neighborhood. These friendships soon meant camping together, and eventually many bought cabins near each other in the Brainerd lakes area. This quickly became his happiest place to be, and all were always welcome.
Dad was the first man in- a tree came down, you need to dig a hole, rebuild a shed, recreate a store, you need anything? He was there to lend a hand, a dollar, a kind word, and his own hard work.
He retired from Piper Jaffray in 1991 as Vice President of Operations and was honored with the first annual Percy Dubbin award created in his honor “to be given to the operations person most helpful to them and their clients.”
He loved his family. He maybe didn’t ever say it, but you knew it, you just did.
Dad was known for well-behaved children and the best grass in the neighborhood. The well-behaved children had a lot to do with his wife and that grass- well that was thanks to us well-behaved kids moving those sprinklers every 30 minutes for the entire summer 😉
He loved nothing more than having his family around, kids and grandkids, a houseful brought Mom joy, and he knew if mom was happy, he was happy.
He filled his retirement years serving on board at Immaculate Heart Church, the Crosslake Lions, drove the senior van and volunteered in the information booth and wherever else there may have been a need, often right alongside Lavina.
Our hearts are broken and trying to remember that Dad believed that “life is for the living” and doing our best to honor who he was.
So- go out and help someone, befriend someone, work hard and play some too. And remember, saying I love you is nice, but being shown it is even better.
