Patrick Hoag

August 22, 1949 — April 17, 2020

Patrick Sheldon Hoag, age 70, of Crosslake died surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 17, 2020 at his residence in Crosslake.  A graveside service will be at Pinewood Cemetery at 1PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.  Immediate family will gather to say a final farewell and guests are asked to abide by social distancing policies and remain at their vehicles during the service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Crosslake.

Patrick was born on August 22, 1949 in Minneapolis to Freeman “Dooley” and Kathaleen (Anderson) Hoag.  He proudly served our country in the United States Army during Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service.  Patrick married Deborah Flatz on August 4, 1973; the couple had two daughters and later divorced.  He worked for the City of Crosslake and volunteered for the fire department for 27 years; until his retirement in 2000.  Patrick served the American Legion as Commander and Historian.  Patrick “Captain Hoagie” enjoyed spending time with friends and family boating, traveling in his RV, four wheeling, and discovering natures treasures.  Patrick was loyal, courageous, fun loving, and adventurous. He was generous, compassionate, and always willing to help someone in need.  Patrick had a great sense of humor and above all else loved his family beyond words.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Patrick is survived by his two daughters, Angela (Jayme) Knapp of Cold Spring, Nicole (Brian) Hansel of Eagle Bend; grandchildren, Kailen, Braeden, Ian, Sabina, Miette, Mariana, Judah, Ira; siblings, JoAnn Ulm of Minneapolis, Sharon (Charles) Flatz of Pine River, Frank (Lisa) Hoag of Crosslake, Martin Hoag of Crosslake, Sadie Hoag of Crosslake; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Freeman “Corky”; nephew, Chuck Flatz; niece, Katie Hoag; great niece, Lauren Ulm.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Crosslake American Legion: Wounded Warrior.
