Oriette 'Dorene' Scheinost

Oriette “Dorene” Scheinost, 85, of Crosslake, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Edgewood Memory Care Facility in Brainerd, MN on May 30, 2026, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease.

Dorene was born on February 25, 1941, in Toronto, South Dakota to Orvid and Doris (Erickson) Rolfson. She lived with her parents and siblings, farming near Toronto, until moving with her family to Sioux Falls, SD in 1956. She graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD with the Class of 1959, and worked briefly at the telephone company in Colorado Springs, Colorado after graduation. On January 28, 1961, she married Ralph Scheinost. They lived in Glendive, Montana and then Ft. Riley, Kansas while Ralph was in the Army, before making their home in Minneapolis, MN, Brandon, SD, Apple Valley, MN and later Monticello, MN. In 1997, Dorene and Ralph retired on Ox Lake in Crosslake, MN. Dorene loved gardening, homemaking and making people laugh. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents Doris and Orvid Rolfson, and her sister Marlys Amundson. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ralph, her two sons Jeffrey (Lisa) Scheinost of Littleton, CO and Brian (Ann) Scheinost of Brainerd, MN, two grandsons Jackson Scheinost of Big Lake, MN and Bennett Scheinost of Brainerd, MN, sisters Bonnie Sehr and JoAnn Stengel of Sioux Falls, SD, brothers Dennis (Donna) Rolfson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lynn (Sharon) Rolfson of Pine River, MN, and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Home in Crosslake, MN followed by a funeral service on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10 a.m. also at Brenny Funeral Home in Crosslake, MN. Cremation and interment at Camp Ripley, Little Falls, MN will follow in a private ceremony at a later date.
