Nellie Mae Roberts, age 100, of Arco, MN died Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial services will be Wednesday, December 13, at 1:30 pm, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with Reverend Don Luther officiating. Interment will be at a later date, at the Arco Cemetery.
Nellie Mae Halling was born February 23, 1906 in Creighton, Nebraska, to John and Annette (Engdahl) Halling. She was baptized into the Methodist faith at Creighton. At an early age she moved with her family to a farm near Arco, where she grew up. After graduation she went to Detroit, MI, and worked for General Motors Company. She was united in marriage to Harold Roberts September 14, 1925 at the Congregational Church. Several years later they moved back to Arco and operated a general store. She was a telephone operator for more than thirty years, both in Arco and in San Francisco, CA. She retired in 1976 and returned to Ivanhoe, MN. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and flowers, and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Minnesota Twins. She was a volunteer at the Ivanhoe meal site. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.
Nellie is survived by two sisters, Elfie Meyers, Minneapolis and Nina Jorgensen, St. Paul; a son-in-law, Earl Andersen, Arco and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Roberts Reimer; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Yvonne Andersen; a son, Lee BuzzRoberts; three sisters; and five brothers. Services entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
