Mitchel Johnson

August 15, 1933 — November 25, 2023

Baxter

Mitchel Donovan Johnson, age 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 25, 2023. He was born in Sebeka, Minnesota on August 15, 1933, to Alfred and Emma (Colby) Johnson where six brothers were already on the scene; Bert, Bob, Bill, Doug, Jim and Phil.

He joined the Air Force six days after graduation from Sebeka High School and served in the Korean War. In 1952 he married Seydelle Horne in Orlando, Florida where he was stationed. In 1953 they were relocated to Great Falls, Montana where he was honorably discharged. In 1957 he was hired by the Minnesota State Patrol, working out of Thief River Falls. In 1960 he transferred to the Minneapolis District working the dog watch and after seven years was promoted and assigned to Brainerd where he retired as a Lieutenant in 1988.

Survivors include his children; Gregg (Laurie) Johnson, Kimberly (Dana) Firkus, grandchildren; Luke Ingberg, Devlan (Elisa) Ingberg, Kati Ingberg, Kirk (Amanda) Johnson, Derek (Sara) Johnson and Trista (Jake) Cameron; and great grandchildren; Victoria, Ethan, Selah, Olivia, Stella, Zachery, Kaylee, Aria, Aiden, Roman, Reece, Zoey and Ellie.

He was preceded in death by Seydelle, his wife of 65 years, and his mother, father, six brothers and two children – a first child who died prematurely, and Cindi Rae Ingberg who died of cancer at age 58.

Mitch loved to ride his bicycle, often logging over 2,500 miles each year. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He attended Lakewood Church from the early days when it met in the Baxter School. He learned through life that “God plays for keeps”. He loved Brainerd and said it’s the best place to live and raise a family in Minnesota.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff of Good Samaritan Society Hospice – Nisswa and Edgewood Healthcare- Baxter.

Mitch requests memorials to be given to your church or a person who may need some help.

A service will be held 12pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Lakewood Church in Baxter with Pastor Matt Nagel officiating. Visitation will start one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
