Michael "Corky" Lynch

February 1, 1964 — May 14, 2025

Pequot Lakes, MN

Michael Albert Lynch, better known as “Corky,” by all who loved him, was born to Mary Jane (Knutson) and Michael Dennis Lynch on February 1, 1964, in northern Minnesota.

Corky spent his early years growing up with his family. He contracted an illness at the age of 5 which resulted in an acquired disability. He lost his ability to move his limbs and talk, but he did not let that stop him. He continued living at home and was tenderly cared for by his mom until his needs increased, and he moved into the Brainerd State Hospital. After spending 20 years there, he found his forever home at Northland Meadows. He moved in on Feb. 12, 1998, and spent many years there getting care and love from many staff and housemates.

Corky brought a calm, joyful presence to his home. Some of the best memories are when Corky’s mom came for a visit and brought treats, gifts, and extra love to share with everyone. Corky and his mom’s love impacted people more than they will ever know. Corky was a very special person who developed deep relationships with many people over the last 27 years. Corky’s staff, housemates, co-workers and day support staff knew Corky as a person. He was genuinely happy and loved a good jump scare. He especially loved listening to stories his mom recorded for him. He also enjoyed listening to his voice echo in empty hallways and big spaces. Corky was happy to announce his presence in any place that had good reverberation. He was an inspiration for his ability to find joy in the little things.

Corky was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and stepfather, Lyle Larsen; along with 5 different housemates and 2 staff at Northland Meadows. He is survived by his mother, Mary; sisters, Lynda (Kenny) Urban and Teri (Kent) Flohrs; half-brother Lyle Larsen Jr.; stepbrother, John (Marnie) Larsen; stepsister, Cathy Stacy; and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his Northland Meadows family who loved him very much: Michael, Rose, and Madisyn, and by many staff who will miss him immensely.

A celebration of life will be held at Northland Meadows on Saturday, June 14 from 2pm to 4pm. Please come and share your fond memories of our dear friend.
