Michael John Dehen, 41, of Brainerd, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 26, 2026.
Michael was born on November 16, 1984, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Jim and Shannon (Hunt) Dehen. He was baptized on February 16, 1985, at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. In 1988, Michael moved with his family to Brainerd, where he was raised and graduated from Brainerd High School with the Class of 2003.
Following high school, Michael attended DeVry University in Pomona, California. His dedication and hard work earned him a Bachelor of Science degree in Game and Simulation Programming, graduating magna cum laude on August 9, 2010.
After college, Michael moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked for Apple. He quickly became the family's trusted technology expert. He was the first person everyone called whenever an iPhone or computer presented a challenge. He later returned to Brainerd and was employed by Old Republic National Title.
Growing up, Michael enjoyed downhill skiing, swimming, and participating in Boy Scouts. His commitment to scouting culminated in earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in 2003, an accomplishment of which he was especially proud. Swimming remained a lifelong pastime, and he continued to enjoy it recreationally.
Michael had a passion for online gaming and enjoyed competing in Texas Hold'em tournaments. He also loved traveling and cherished several family trips to Hawaii. Above all, Michael treasured time spent with his family, especially his five nephews and one niece, who brought him great joy.
Though naturally quiet and reserved, Michael possessed a gentle spirit and a deeply caring heart. He was thoughtful, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Michael is survived by his parents, Jim and Shannon Dehen of Brainerd; his brother, Chris (September) Dehen of North Branch, Minnesota, and their sons, Hunter, Connor, and Tanner; his sister, Nicole (Josiah) Hylden of Thompson, North Dakota, and their children, Caleb, Addison, and Rylan; Sammi, his beloved miniature Dachshund; along with many extended family members, friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15 from 4pm – 5pm at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter. A private family service will be held.
