Maxine Nordby

Maxine Mae Nordby (Remund), age 91, of Mankato, MN, passed away peacefully, Friday, December 10, 2021, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, MN. A Celebration of Life for Maxine will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 1-5 pm at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary located at 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003 (www.mankatomortuary.com). Maxine, daughter of Elmer and Amelia (Overby) Remund, was born on her home farmstead on March 6, 1930, in Wilmot, SD with her two grandmothers assisting in her birth. (A snowstorm prevented the doctor from getting there right away). She graduated from Wilmot High School in 1949. Following her graduation, she went on to study nursing at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and became an RN, graduating in 1951. She met the love of her life Eugene (Gene) Nordby on a blind date and later they were married on June 29, 1952. They lived briefly in Cedar Rapids, IA and Richfield, MN before settling down in Mankato, MN in 1962. Although Maxine loved nursing, she retired after the birth of her son Robert in 1960 and became a full-time mother and homemaker. Her daughter Ruth was born in 1963. Maxine keep her nursing license current and volunteered for the American Red Cross doing blood pressure clinics at the local fire stations and helped with the visual and hearing screenings in the Mankato Public Schools. Maxine had a lot of interests and enjoyed gardening, rosemaling, crafting, baking, and traveling. She and Gene enjoyed camping and took their children to numerous National Parks in the U.S. They also enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Maxine and Gene spent their summer weekends in the Brainerd Lakes Area and wintering in Arizona. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. She is survived by her son Robert (Christi) Nordby, Mankato, MN, Ruth (Mike) Schwieters, Crosslake, MN. Grandsons Tyler (Sara) Nordby, Daniel Nordby, Robby Nordby and Great-Grandson Forest Nordby. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene Nordby and brother Royce Remund.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
