Mary Sheley

Mary Sheley, age 68, of Backus, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at her home. She was born April 4, 1943, in Streator, IL, to Joseph and Leona Tallyn. She graduated from Benson High School in Benson, IL. Mary moved to Backus in 1979 and worked in the banking business for over 33 years, with the last 21 years at First National Bank of Walker, Backus Branch. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Backus where she enjoyed singing in the choir and served as their treasurer for many years. Mary loved following her grandkids' sporting events, and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Bulls and college basketball games, especially during March Madness. She also enjoyed spending time with her best friend, Kathy Chitwood, and Thursday morning breakfasts with the ladies at the Backus Corner Store.

Mary is survived by her children: Dave Sheley (Kim), Dawn Crosby (Dean); grandchildren: Tucker, Taylor, Tatum, Lucas, Brittni; step grandchildren: Daryn, Mikayla, Brandon, Logan; brother, Joe Tallyn (Lynda); and sister, Donna Peterson (Ron).

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Services will be 3 PM on Saturday, May 28, at Lakeside Baptist Church, Backus, with Pastor Jeff Broom officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 6 PM at Lakeside Baptist Church, and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
