Mary Larson

August 26, 1911 — April 5, 2001

Mary Larson, age 89, of Staples, MN, died Thursday evening, April 5th, 2001, at the Greater Staples Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 9th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Staples, at 10:30 AM, with Father Lauren Germann officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples. Relatives will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 7 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
Mary Ann Larson was born on August 26, 1911, near Staples, MN, to Carl and Lucy (Tils) Mertens. She grew up in the Staples area and attended Sacred Heart School. On November 28, 1933 she married Elmer H. Larson. Together they farmed north of town in Thomastown Township. For many years Mary also worked at the Staples Nursing Home. Following Elmer?s death in April of 1980, Mary continued to live on the farm until just a few years ago. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mary is survived by her son, Glen Larson of Staples; 3 daughters, Donna Duevel of Brooklyn Park, MN, Evelyn (Jim) Nurnberger of Anoka, MN, and Renee (Don) Olds of Staples; a son-in-law, Don Pavek of Champlin,MN; a sister, Iva Grossman of Hibbing, MN; 3 brothers, Clarence Mertens of Staples, Dave Mertens of Staples, and Roy Mertens of Staples; 13 Grandchildren, and 15 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Elmer, a daughter, Irene Pavek; a son-in-law, Joe Duevel; and 5 brothers, Bill, Joe, Rich, Lloyd, and Floyd Mertens.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons; Don Pavek, Darin Pavek, Joe Duevel, Mark Duevel, James Larson, Mike Nurnberger, and Brian Olds.
