Marvel Joyce Wetherbee Cantleberry Fauquier
Staples, MN — Marvel Joyce (Wetherbee) (Cantleberry) Fauquier, age 92 years of Pillager, MN, passed away on April 22, 2026, at Lakewood Health System in Staples, MN.
Marvel Joyce Fauquier was born in Omaha, NE, on January 21, 1934, to Nathan and Dorothy Wetherbee. She was the first of two children; her sister, Natalie, joined the family four years later. Marvel graduated from Benson High School in Omaha in 1952.
In May 1952, Marvel and Charles (Chuck) Cantleberry were united in marriage in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Scandia Valley Township, where they farmed and raised four children: Michael, Steven, Douglas, and Connie. Marvel raised her family on the farm and worked side-by-side with Charles—milking, mowing, driving tractor, gardening, canning and baking, and knitting and crocheting. She later worked at Carter Ringer in Staples and then for the Pillager Public School system as a secretary. Marvel was a former member of First Baptist Church of Pillager and later a member of Arapaho Baptist Church in Richardson, TX. Marvel married Don Fauquier in August 2003 and lived in Texas until Don’s passing in 2014. She then returned to Minnesota, rekindled her relationship with Chuck, and lived near Motley until Chuck’s passing in 2021.
Marvel had a deep love for Jesus Christ & her family. She especially loved babies, reading, crossword puzzles, music, traveling and her handwork. In the mid-1980s, Marvel began playing the accordion, with Chuck playing bass guitar. She was a member of the Mansion Messenger group, and they played for nursing homes and churches for special events. The duo performed in AZ, NM, MN, and ND, and they had so much fun playing together.
Marvel had a knack for baking, and she loved sharing it with others. She was known for bringing her butter-flavored yeast buns or her chocolate cake to any gathering—and she was always glad to be rewarded with an empty container to take home. She made many sets of mittens and slippers for any child, her hands were always busy.
When the kids were growing up, the family traveled to Omaha at least once a year to visit her mom. Marvel also loved visiting family whenever they could—traveling to MO and TX to see Michael and his family; to Germany to see Steve and his family; to ND to see Doug and his two families; and to SD to see Connie. That little pickup and camper would show up just about anywhere.
Marvel is lovingly remembered by her children: Michael of Galesburg, IL, and Connie (Don) of Big Lake, MN; and by her sister, Natalie “Kitti” Beckwith of WA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; two sons, Steven and Douglas; and grandson, Stevie.
Interment will be at Ogema Point Cemetery in Scandia Valley Township, MN.
