Mark Allen Kuschke, of Nisswa, passed away at home on July 30, 2025, at the age of 71. A lifelong adventurer with an unmatched competitive spirit, Mark lived his life with passion, purpose, and love for the outdoors.
Born in Brainerd on January 19, 1954, to Rodney and Margaret (Simenstad) Kuschke. Mark developed a deep connection with nature at an early age. He was a wild child that loved thrill and adventure. At just 12 years old, he won a hill climb dirt bike competition at French Rapids, foreshadowing a life defined by determination and courage. His competitive nature continued though his life as a Golden Gloves Boxer, racing anything he could from snowmobiles to motorcycles. His thrill for adventure led him to many great places and states. He was happiest on the lake slamming fish or on the golf course trying to have his best game.
Mark built his career in construction, but his true calling was found in the wild places he cherished. As a fishing guide and later through his work with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), he not only worked in nature he protected and preserved it. His love for animals and the environment was evident to all who knew him.
Mark’s heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Randi, and their daughter, A’Lesha “Cheech”, his forever little girl (Jacob Grieser). Both of whom were the center of his world. His legacy lives on through them and in the countless lives he touched with his generosity, humor, and adventurous spirit. Mark is survived by his sister, Karen “Kim” Mueske (LaVern) Waldport, OR; brother-in-law, Tom Riley Ely, MN; cousin, Scott Simenstad (Nancy) Aitkin, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rod and Marge Kuschke; mother-in-law, Margaret Riley; brothers-in-law, Michael and Charles Riley; nephew, Shaun Riley; and his favorite uncle, Ray “Unc” Simenstad.
Whether casting a line into a quiet lake or helping others experience the outdoors he loved so much, Mark brought joy, energy, and authenticity to everything he did. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
