Lorraine Hazel (Fiedler) Shamp, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026 surrounded by her three sons.
Born on August 20, 1928, to Henry Theodore and Ruth Mavis (Converse) Fiedler in Howard Lake, Minnesota. Lorraine attended country school near Howard Lake, graduated in 1947 from Howard Lake High School. She attended Minneapolis Beauty College to become a beautician. While attending college, she met Vern Shamp at the Marigold Ball room. They later danced into marriage on September 6, 1949, at St. Elizabeth Church in Minneapolis. They made their home in Mapleview (Austin) Minnesota where they raised their four children. Lorraine owned and operated “Shamps Beauty Shop” from 1950 until retirement. After retirement, they made the cabin on German Lake to their full-time home. Lorraine took great pride in her flower gardens; she had a passion and a talent for turning any flower garden into a masterpiece. If there was music, she and Vern would be dancing. She enjoyed traveling, her travels included Europe, Alaska and getting away during the Minnesota Winters to Florida and Nevada. She had a deep love for quilting, she made homemade quilts for her three sons, three grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Hobbies included embroidery, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, cooking, baking, canning, puzzles, playing cards, bingo and occasional trip to the casino.
After Vern’s (husband) death in 2018, Lorraine moved up north to Pine River and resided at The Riverside Villas.
Survivors include three sons – Dennis (Gina) Pine River, Randy (Karen) Austin and Alan (Wendy) Pequot Lakes.
Four grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan), Adam (Lindy), Amanda (John), Aaron; seven great grandchildren, Johanna, Brody, Noah, Caleb, Riley, Logan, Lauren, and one great-great grandchild- Quinn Marie.
Sister Nancy (Bill) Wheeler Rochester along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her parents, Husband (Vern Shamp), daughter, Chrstine Ann Shamp, Great Grandson Aidan Hegge, Brother Kenneth Fiedler.
Services will be held at a later date.
Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Austin.
