Lila May Thady, 81, “Grasshopper” of Brainerd, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 17, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society – Woodland. Lila was born October 27, 1939, the daughter of Arthur and Charlotte Schwendeman.
Lila enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing BINGO, doing puzzles, the casino, gardening, creating crafts and writing books for the great grandchildren. Most of all, Lila enjoyed being with family and spoiling the grandkids. Back in the day, Lila was an excellent pool player, and worked at Community Action. She was actively involved in starting the Big Brother, Big Sister program in the Brainerd area.
While employed at Community Action, Lila was in charge of the 4th of July Parade which was in Brainerd’s History!
Lila will be sadly missed by her daughters Laurette (Laurie) Lindquist, Monica (Nickie) Veith, and Bryan Moser; grandchildren Travis Jackson, Jasmyn and Nathan Wickham; great grandchildren Lilliana, Hunter, Eleah and Declan; brother Ronald Schwendeman; sister Carol Kruger; loving niece Linda and her husband Jerry Schuety, and her special cat “Gizmo”.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Charlotte Schwendeman, step-mother Lillian Schwendeman and brother; Duane Schwendeman.
Per Lila’s request, there will be no service. Her life will be celebrated by her immediate family only
Lila was unique, determined, adventurous, genuine, hard-working (working 2-3 jobs at a time to support her family) and extremely generous opening up her home or several occasions to strangers with nowhere to go.
