Liala Forsberg

Liala M. Forsberg, 90, of Hackensack, MN, journeyed into her next great adventure June 1, 2018, while in hospice at the Good Samaritan Society in Pine River.

Liala was born December 16, 1927, in Pennock, MN, to Hjalmer and Mamie (Bergman) Johnson. She married Wayne G. Forsberg September 6, 1947. They lived in Willmar where Liala worked for the Willmar State Hospital as a secretary until they moved to the Minneapolis area in 1966, and worked for the Neurology Clinic, Golden Valley.

After Wayne’s death in 1986, Liala moved to Hackensack and lived in her cabin on Birch Lake. She was blessed with another love in her life when she met Gordy Friday. Together with lots of imagination and desire they moved the little cabin off the lot and built their dream home. They had beautiful gardens to meander through and with the winds coming off the lake, a wonderful screened-in-porch to sit and visit.

Liala was an accomplished painter in oils and watercolors. She loved playing numerous card games with family and friends. Singing gospel to country music songs and dancing added that extra spice to her life.

Liala was a member of the Birch Lake Association. She served as the newsletter editor along with other positions. Liala designed and supervised the planting of the Birch Lake Memorial Garden.

Liala was a spirited lady with a wonderful sense of humor and memory until the very end. Her Royal Highness will be greatly missed by those she touched.

Liala is survived by her loving son, Bruce; her grandchildren, Vincent and Trenton; sister, Norma (Burgess) Eberhardt; sisters-in-law, Shirley Johnson and Terry Welch; her nieces and nephews: Sue (Jim) Holthaus, Lori (Mike) Coleman, Karen (John) Dalton, Nancy (Dave) Fuchs, Carlos (Kari) Eberhardt, Krista Eberhardt, Dean (Jackie) Johnson, Marideth (Javier) Salgado; many great grand nieces and nephews, and her adopted cat, Jasmine. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; special friend, Gordy Friday; her brothers: Ardell, Gary, Ronald and Norman Johnson.
