Leo Whitman

Leo Whitman, 82, of Brainerd passed away peacefully at Edgewood Vista Baxter on August 19, 2020. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 12:00 pm at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel- Baxter, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Leo was born to Gordon and Mabel (Prinsen) Whitman on July 09, 1938 in Lake Benton, Minnesota. The Whitman family moved to the Brainerd Lakes area in 1940, and Leo graduated from Brainerd High School class of 1957. He married Rosemary Huggins on February 27, 1960 in Brainerd, MN. He worked at Potlatch as a millwright until he retired in 1999. Leo was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed both snowmobiling and motorcycling. He was also a member of Northern Tin Car Club, Mn Street Rod Association and enjoyed working on and building cars. He won numerous awards for the classic cars he and Rosie built. Leo was a true craftsman, if Leo could envision something he could make it.

He is survived by his loving wife Rosie of 60 years; daughters Cheryl (Mark) Kiehlbauch, and Rae (Tim) Thompson; grandchildren Lindsey Thompson, Nathan (Larissa) Thompson, Taylor (Blair) Randall, Spencer Thompson, LeeAnne Kiehlbauch, Jason Kiehlbauch; great grandchildren Hadley, Leo, and Nash Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Mabel Whitman; brother Jim Whitman, and sister Florence McCarthy.
