Laura Arvilla Viergutz, was born October 20, 1918 to Benjamin and Nancy (Hennigar) Chase in Inman Township rural Deer Creek, MN.
She was the eldest of five children. In 1939 she married Edmund Viergutz at Oak Valley Methodist Church also in Inman Township, where they farmed for several years. She spent most of her time helping with chores and doing the daily duties of a farm wife.
In 1948 they moved to a farm in rural Backus and farmed until they moved to Hopkins, MN. She quickly mad friends and enjoyed baby-sitting for many of the neighborhood children After they retired in 1976 they moved back to the Backus area. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved the birds and flowers. Later, health forced her to move to Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home in Pine River in 2001 where she remained until her death, January 24, 2012.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (James) Plehal of Backus; grandsons, Steve (Kathy) Plehal of Harwood, ND, Kevin Holm of Williston, ND; 6 Great grandchildren; 7 Great-Great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edmund; two granddaughters, Pamela Kay Plehal and Dawn Marie Holm; her parents; two brothers, Harris and Kenneth Chase; two sisters, Arvilla Dougherty, Peg Dubrowski and Arvilla Dougherty.
Services will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, with Pastor Tim Walker officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Backus. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
