Larry Johnson

Larry Lee Johnson, age 76 of Nisswa, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 7, 2023. He was born to Arnold and Evelyn Johnson on July 21, 1947, in Laurens, Iowa. Larry graduated with the class of ‘65 from LeRoy-Ostrander High School, where he and Peggy were high school sweethearts. They married on November 27th, 1966. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at RAF Woodbridge Air Force base in England, where they both experienced the adventures of early married life together.

Upon being honorably discharged, they returned to Minnesota, where Larry continued his employment with IBM in Rochester where they started their family. IBM moved them to the Twin Cities where they first lived in Brooklyn Park, then raised their children in Lakeville. After retiring at 46, as empty nesters, they eventually moved to Burnsville, and enthusiastically bought their lake home on Gull Lake where they have lived permanently since 2000.

Larry’s passions were his grandchildren, restoring dozens of El Caminos, being a Mr. Fix-it to all and serving as a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Larry’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Peggy; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Tim Nelson, Jacob (14) and Sara (13); son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Christine Johnson, Madeline (18), William (15) and Victoria (13); brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Gail Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Betty Johnson; brother-in-law, Russ Julseth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Brad and Kaye Taylor; and other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Evelyn Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willard and Doris Johnson; and sister, Colette Julseth.

Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, September 16 at Grace United Methodist Church, Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nisswa.
