Larry D. Hummel, 79, Baxter, MN, died at his home on Friday, 2-7-2020. Visitation for Larry will be from 5 to 7 PM, Tuesday, at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter and for one hour prior to the service at Heritage Church, Baxter. Larry’s service will be at 11 AM, Wednesday at Heritage, burial will be at the Baxter Cemetery.
Larry Dean Hummel was born on January 12, 1941 in Akeley, MN, son of George and Edith (Benson) Hummel. The family moved from Laporte to Brainerd in 1952. Larry was united in marriage with Jeannine Sullivan on June 11, 1962 in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Brainerd, moving to Baxter in 1985. Larry retired from Potlach after 39 years. He was a former longterm member of the Fraternity order of Eagles and MSRA.
He loved collecting and working on old cars, especially his 36 Ford Coupe.
He loved it when his grandchildren and great grandchildren would call or drop in. Many memories were made, stories told and lessons learned.
Larry is survived by his children: Kim (Brad) Horn of Baxter, Denise (Todd) Peters of Brainerd and Jeff (Kari) Hummel of Pillager; grandchildren: Amanda (Stephen) Hafften of Princeton, Amber (Justin) Mitchell of Brainerd, Kayla (Christopher) Owen of Sartell, Nicholas (Katy) Hummel of Pillager, Nicole (Mike) Kevelin of Pine River, Justin Hummel of Pillager, Cynthia Volkmuth of Randall and Jayden Hummel of Brainerd; great grandchildren: Brenna, Blake, Bristol, Natalie, Eastyn, Elli, Kinsley, Wyatt, Charles, Callaway, Kennedy, Aspen and Lexi ; his siblings: Peggy Marshman of Wyoming, MN, Stanley (Bobbie) Hummel of Brainerd and Robert (Lynda) Hummel of Brainerd; half-brothers: Gene Hummel and Tim Hummel.
He was preceded in death by his parents: George & Edith; brothers: Kenny, James & Steve; sisters: Delores & Joyce; his wife: Jeannine; his son: James; a great grandson: Blair; and a half-brother: Mike.
