Kathryn Simonson

Kathryn “Kathy” Sue Simonson, 67, of Brainerd, died Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Cremation Garden.

Born January 30, 1950 in Brainerd, Kathy was the daughter of John and Marie (Erdman) Ellingson. She was raised and educated in Brainerd and in 1968 she graduated from Brainerd High School. She married Dwight “Ike” Simonson on May 14, 1998 in Lake Tahoe. Kathy loved treasure hunting with her husband at auctions and antique shops as well as traveling to new places. She loved her children and cherished her role as grandma and could burst with pride over the accomplishments of her grandkids as she cheered them on with boundless positivity and support.

Kathy was open, accepting, and always thoughtful, and she was as good a listener as she was a talker. The sparkle in her eyes, her welcoming spirit, and ability to make you feel like the most interesting person in the room are just a few of the many reasons she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Ike; children, Christopher Adams and Stephanie Adams Conklin; step-children, Lawrence (Angie) Simonson and Britta Simonson; grandchildren; and siblings, Don Ellingson and Luann Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie and sister, Judy Koenig.
