Julie Moser

Julie Ann (Kater) Moser, lifelong resident of Pine River, MN, passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2026, having lived and loved enthusiastically for 87 years.

Julie was the first of the four Kater girls born to John Kater Jr. and Della (Gardiner) Kater. She grew up surrounded by a tightknit circle of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and 1st cousins named Sherwood, Houston, and Gardiner, all living within 2 blocks of her house.

After graduating from Pine River High School, Julie trained as an LPN before marrying her high school sweetheart, Lowell (Bub) Moser. After a decade in Minneapolis, they returned to Pine River with their 2 children, Lynn and Becky, where Bub joined Julie’s father in running Kater Auto. Always active in the community, Julie was elected to and served 2 terms on the Pine River School Board.

Following a divorce, Julie earned her RN degree at Brainerd Community College. Ready to serve the Lord and experience adventure, she soon enlisted as a nurse with Youth With a Mission (YWAM), traveling on mission trips to Mexico and South America. Eventually she returned to Pine River where she built her permanent home on her beloved Kater Island. She worked full time as an RN at St Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd as well as the Good Samaritan Society, and later as a Home Health Nurse with Advantage PCA.

A wholehearted woman, Julie lived out her days invested in and enlivening the lives of her many friends and relatives. If you didn’t see her at her beloved church, you could always find her tanning on her dock, jet-skiing, picking blue berries, making homemade baked beans, cooking Christmas brunch, on a beach in Puerta Vallarta, welcoming visitors, laughing loudly, tending her flower garden and always, always wearing only the brightest colors.

Julie is survived by her two children, Lynn Moser (Lori) and Becky Wells (Vince); 3 sisters, Caroline Johnson, Jackie Johnson and Kathy Kater (Lincoln); 2 grandchildren, Laura Moser and Desmond Elliot; as well as 4 great grandchildren, Malakei, Amayah, Charizma and Miyhanna. She will also be missed by her 8 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Riverview Church in Pine River, with a visitation the hour prior.
