Judith Loraine Wayt, of Brainerd, Minnesota, passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 80. She was born on August 31, 1946, to Edwin Zahller and Nora Murray.
Judith dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, where her compassion and caring nature touched the lives of many. She also had a strong commitment to her community and spent 20 years volunteering at the VFW. During that time, she served as Treasurer of the Women’s Auxiliary and was a member of the City Memorial Day Committee for 10 years. Judith was also a lifelong member of the Brainerd VFW, an organization that held a special place in her heart.
Judith enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and cherished the time she spent with her family. She loved bird watching, reading history books, and especially enjoyed dancing. She was very proud of her family and treasured the time and memories she shared with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Judith will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Darrel Wayt; her children, Melanie Freeman, Angela Simmonds, Joy Mindrup, Joe Hass, and Shawn Hygrill; her stepchildren, Dominigue (Gerald) Ferguson and Jason Wayt; her four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her brothers, Doug and David; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Zahller and Nora Murray, and one sister.
Judith will be remembered for her caring heart, dedication to helping others, love of family, and many years of service to her community. Her kindness, generosity, and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Brainerd VFW on Friday, September 25, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Judith’s life at a place that was very meaningful to her.
