Joyce Elaine Callender, age 70, of Crosslake and Hobe Sound, FL, died on Friday, April 27, 2001, in Stuart, FL. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 4, 11:00 AM, at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, officiated by Reverend Doctor Paul Fruth and Reverend Dennis Hoffman. Friends may visit on Thursday, May 3, from 5-8:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association are preferred. Arrangements by Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Joyce Hanson Callender was born on October 18, 1930 in North St. Paul, Minnesota to Edwin and Filisty (Chavie) Hanson. Her family began vacationing in the Lakes area while she was young. She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul. She was united in marriage to Robert Kise and they lived in St. Paul. She worked as a homemaker. She also worked and volunteered at St. John?s Hospital. Robert died on December 9, 1985. Joyce was married to John Callender in Wayzata, Minnesota on November 27, 1987. They moved to Crosslake. They wintered in Texas, and, more recently, in Florida. Joyce was an active member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church of Crosslake, where she did a great deal of volunteer work. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and knitting sweaters.

Joyce Callender is survived by her husband John; 6 children, Brian (Jane) Kise, Edina, David (Vickie) Kise, Andover, Sandra (John) Rasmussen, Missoula, MT, John (Joan) Callender II, Shorewood, Steven (Marcia) Callender, Brooklyn Park, and Alison (Michael) Mooney, FL; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Robert Kise, and her parents preceded her in death.
