JoAnne Lorendo

The Lord gathered JoAnne (Hopwood) (Munson) Lorendo into His arms and welcomed her home on September 20, 2026, at River’s Edge Assisted Living, Aitkin, Minnesota, where she had been receiving loving and compassionate care by the staff and Moments Hospice staff.

JoAnne was born in Peoria, Illinois on October 28, 1942, to Robert R. Hopwood and Reva (Holt) Hopwood. She married Ross Munson September 13, 1959, and they moved their family to Minnesota in 1967. JoAnne remarried in the Upper Peninsula to her second love, Oscar Lorendo on May 11, 1985.

She wore many hats including being a homemaker, farmer, taxidermist, before finding her calling in caring for others. She worked with adults with disabilities and managed a group home and training with them to enter the workforce. After retirement, she and her son started and ran a greenhouse for several years. She returned to Minnesota in 2007.

JoAnne was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and was a consummate caregiver that encompassed her family, friends and animals.

She is survived by son, Eugene Munson (Lori Kirk), daughter, Deborah (Gary) Foye; grandchildren, Christina (Rashad) Ferdous, Jessica (Zach) Spicer, Wyatt and Trevor Foye; and great grands, Raheem, Rayna, Rameen, and Ish Ferdous, and Isabel, Lyle, and Taya Spicer.

She was preceded in death by ex-husband Ross Munson; husband, Oscar Lorendo; her parents; two brothers; one sister; three sister in laws; four brother in laws; and one nephew.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.

Interment will be held in Michigan, next to Oscar.
