Joan Bierman

Joan Bierman passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023 in Pierz, Minnesota. Jo was born September 12, 1945 to Orval and Harriet (Anderson) Bierman in Belgrade, Stearns County, Mn. She graduated from Simley High School, Inver Grove Heights, Mn (1963) and became a registered nurse after graduating from Hennepin County Medical Center School of Nursing (1966). Jo moved to California and worked as a pediatric, surgical and intensive care nurse as well as a certified emergency room nurse. From 1980-1985, Jo was a senior staff nurse/head nurse at King Fahad Air Base and Residential Clinic in Taif, Saudi Arabia. Jo also taught and judged art (1990-93) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. During her years in Saudi she traveled extensively through Europe, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, India and the Middle East. Jo returned to the United States in 1994 and resided in Texas where she attended North Harris County College. In 1995, Jo returned to Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota (1996) magna summa cum laude with a major in Art History and a double minor in Studio Arts and Women’s Studies.  In 2007, Jo was employed at the Crosslake Historical Society Log Village as Museum Manager. Jo enjoyed greeting visitors to the historic site, participating in events and curating items donated.

Jo is preceded by her parents Orval and Harriet (Anderson) Bierman and her brother Bob Bierman. Jo is survived by her sister, Elaine (Ray) Gergen and their children, brother Tim (Kathy) Bierman, their children; Cousin Ann (Kevin) Schield and their children along with many more cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Inver Grove Heights, MN on January 27, 2024 with visitation at 1 p.m. and a memorial service at 2 pm. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the Crosslake Historical Society Log Village, PO Box 134, Crosslake, MN 56442  or Crosslake Presbyterian Church, 14444 Daggett Pine Rd, Crosslake, MN 56442. Jo will be buried in the Belgrade United Methodist Cemetery in Belgrade, Mn near her grandparents.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
