Janice Pietig

Janice Marie Pietig, age 88, of Lakeshore, Minnesota, entered into heaven peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 5064 County Road 13, Nisswa, MN 56468, on Friday, May 1st, 2026, beginning at 10:00a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow, with a private family burial later that day.

Jan was born on December 5, 1937, to Lloyd and Esther (Gray) Jones in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She graduated from Hector High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator in Redwood Falls, where she happened to overhear a phone conversation involving her future husband, Dale Pietig. That unexpected moment led to a lifetime of love. Jan and Dale were married on December 29, 1956, and eventually made their home in Olivia, Minnesota. In 1996, they moved to Lakeshore to enjoy retirement together.

Jan and Dale shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, raising five children and building a legacy that includes numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their years together were filled with laughter, devotion, and unwavering love.

Jan enjoyed shopping, playing cards, cooking, gardening, crafting, and sewing. She was a talented and meticulous seamstress, known especially for her beautifully embroidered kitchen towels, which she lovingly gifted to family and friends. She also had a passion for baking and sharing sweets with those she loved. She never passed up an opportunity to take her grandchildren to the candy store, happily splurging on treats for both them and herself.

Of all the roles she held in life, being a mother and grandmother was her greatest joy. She loved her family fiercely and wholeheartedly, cherishing every moment spent together.

Jan was a kind and loving woman with a generous heart. Fittingly, with that heart full of love, she went to be with the love of her life on Valentine’s Day.

Janice’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Good Samaritan Society for their compassionate care and support.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Leslie (Gary) Severson; Julie (Peter) Hemze; Tim (Jean) Pietig; Mic (Kristi) Pietig; and Shawna (Marc) Williams; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers Doug (Lela) Jones, Randy Jones (special friend Kimberly) and sister-in-law Janet Jones Woodford; along with many other beloved relatives and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents; her brother, Jack; and her niece, Jodie.
