James Long

March 4, 2009 — August 4, 1935

James R. Long, 73, of Brainerd passed away Wednesday March 4th, 2009 at Crosby Care Center, Crosby, MN, after a courageous battle of cancer. Memorial Services will be on Monday, March 23rd at 10 A.M., at Brenny Funeral Chapel, in Baxter, MN with Reverend John Just officiating.
James Richard Long was born to the late Ralph R. and Mildred (La Tourette) Long on August 4th, 1935 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from North Side High School in Ft. Wayne, where he was an outstanding track star, winning numerous awards as well as a college scholarship.

He attended Prudue University in the School of Pharmacy. James served in the Indiana National Guard as a Sgt E-5 and was a manager at Motel 6 in Ft. Wayne.

Upon moving to Brainerd, MN he became a nationally known fishing guide. James guided many famous people and won lots of fishing tournaments. He was the founder of Legend Lures and designed many lures and spinner baits.

James is survived by his sister, Judith Buroker of Evansville, Indiana; nephews Paul Buroker of Chicago, Il and Jeff (Tracey) Buroker of Evansville, IN; a niece, Jennifer Buroker of Evansville, IN; 2 great nephews and 3 great nieces.
